Pittsburgh Public Schools Strategic Plan
2008-2014
Revised Final Strategic Plan Version 6
The Board of Education received an overview of the Revised Final Draft Plan at its November 5, 2008 Education Committee Meeting.
The Board approved the 2008-2014 Strategic Plan (Version 6) at its November 25, 2008 Legislative Session.
The Board-approved Final Strategic Plan (Version 6) was revised on July 27, 2009 to add Strategy 1.16 Maximizing Teacher Effectiveness through RISE.
Pittsburgh Public Schools recognizes the strategic plan to be a guiding document that organizes the District’s PDE compliance responsibilities, shared goals, and priority initiatives in one place. It includes initiatives that are already underway, as well as initiatives that the District will need to plan, design, and begin to implement in the coming six years.
The Strategic Plan helps the District set in motion key strategies essential to reaching the District’s Mission and Shared Goals—both of which focus entirely on increasing the life prospects of the students whom we serve--and helps to align this work at the school level.
Therefore, this Revised Final Plan is designed to meet the flexible needs of the District as it continues to implement and deepen the work of Excellence for All across the next six years—2008-2014. This Final Plan:
- Is built upon the direction set forward by the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools;
- Is informed by audit findings on our District’s needs; and
- Reflects input of our stakeholders, including parents and community members.
- Reflects input from the Public Commentary Period, held between September 30 and October 31, 2008
- Reflects Board Comments from its November 5 Education Committee Meeting and November 19, 2008 Agenda Review
The Revised Final Plan has gone through various previous drafts--July 25, October 3, October 31, November 5, November 14, and November 20--as well as a 30 day public commentary period between September 30 and October 31, 2008.
All drafts reflected stakeholder input and comment. Stakeholders included parents, community members, business leaders, post-secondary training providers, community-based and faith based providers, students, District staff, teachers, principals, and the Board of Education. Public comments were reviewed and considered in the Revised Final Draft of the Strategic Plan. Public comment was submitted to the Board of Education through:
- The District’s website: www.pps.k12.pa.us/strategicplan;
- The Board’s October 13, 2008, regularly scheduled public hearing; or
- In person at Room 201 of the Board of Education’s Administrative Offices, located at 341 South Bellefield Avenue.
The Revised Final Plan also incorporates the following five Technical Plans and School Level Improvement Plans:
